MILD STEEL IN PRIMARY CIRCUITS IN WATER COOLED POWER REACTORS

The corrosion rate in hydrogenated water at pH 10-11 is 40 mg Pe/dm2 month or lower after an extended conditioning period. When pH is reduced the rate is increased and the products appear in a more unsuitable form from a purification point of view.nOxygen and hydrogen contents normally experienced in boiling water reactors appear to result in the lowest corrosion rates observed when the water is neutral.
