THE DOLLAR PROGRAM FOR CALCULATING URANIUM ORE RESERVES

The Atomic Energy Commission's DOLLAR program enables a digital computer to calculate ore reserves for underground uranium mines at various concentrate prices. In this program each mining level is divided into ore blocks;then the area of each ore block is determined and punched on IBM cards along with the block number, hole or channel number, and sample data from the hole or channel. The sample data may be gamma-ray log readings or assays of sample intervals in holes or channels. Control data cards also are keypunched, and these relate to property identification, minimum mining thickness, dilution grade, tonnage factor, direct operating costs, indirect costs, and a list of U3O8 prices for which block-by-block printout is needed.
