摘要

Accurate determination of the physical properties of the alluvium at the SEDAN site was difficult since only a few representative samples were available. Complex lithology of the alluvium and the variable distribution of caliche and other zones of cementation throughout the sampled interval compound the problem. Regional data from Yucca Flat as well as observa¬tions of the alluvium at the project site show that an increase in density occurs with depth, probably due to cementation, or compaction, or both. Surface seismic measurements made by the U. S. Geological Survey2 suggest an increase in density with increasing depth in parts of northern Yucca Flat.
