METAL NITRATE COMPLEXES WITH TRIBUTYL PHOSPHATE AND WITH TRIOCTYL PHOSPHINE OXIDE

An Infrared spectra investigation of organic solvents containing various inorganic solutes was made. The emphasis was on metal nitrate complexes with tribute phosphate and with tri-n-octyl phosphine oxide. The infrared spectra indicated that in all solute-solvent systems studied a single complex was formed with the attachment of the solute taking place at the phosphoryl oxygen in the case of tributyl phosphate and tri-n-octyl phosphates oxide- There was no indication of an attachment to the oxygen of the P-O-C group in the case of tributyl phosphate.
