Sources of ionizing radiation based on the radioisotope Sr90 are widely used in apparatus and systems for the automatic checking and control of industrial processes.nThe technology of the preparation of sources is based on the dehydra¬tion of a mixture of a radioactive solution of strontium nitrate with such components as boric oxide, silica and alumina. Heating the dehydrated mixture at high temperatures produces a very mobile melt. This cools to a vitreous compound containing the required quantity of the radioisotope Sr90.
