A SURVEY OF HIGH COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH OXIDES AND CARBIDES

Composite, hard-grain, ductile matrix bodies of high compres¬sive strength can be produced by isostatic pressing at 200,000 -300,000 psi and firing at temperatures well below those normally employed for sintering comparable compositions. The compacts so produced are shown to have outstanding compressive strengths and steel-cutting ability.nThe preparation, pressing, firing, and testing of a number of such mixtures have been achieved.
