FABRICATION OF BNL STANDARD COBALT-60 SOURCE

The BNL standard source is a cobalt-60 gamma irradiation source consisting of a strip of cobalt approximately 12 inches long which has been doubly encapsulated in stainless steel, once before activation and again after activation. In this re¬port a description is given of the procedures and equipment used in the preparation and fabrication of these sources to meet the specifications of the Savannah River Plant (SRP).
