摘要

The review is mainly concerned with the chemical effects of heavy particle irradiation on ionic solids and includes discussions of the spontaneous-decomposition of the compounds of heavy radioactive elements and the chemical effects of nuclear transformations such as Szilard-Chalmers reactions. The chemical changes which occur as a result of the formation of thermal spikes and the subsequent annealing of these changes are discussed.
