REMOVAL OF CESIUM FROM EVAPORATOR CONDENSATE

An ion exchange process was developed to remove cesium from condensate solutions produced when aged highly radioactive waste solutions are evap¬orated at the Savannah River Plant. The cesium is removed from the condensate in a single pass through a fixed bed of "Decalso," an aluminosilicate gel. In laboratory tests with actual condensate, about 99％ of the cesium was removed from 10,000 bed volumes of feed before regeneration of the bed was required.
