Analytical Method for THE DETERMINATION OF BORON IN GASEOUS CARBON DIOXIDE

Gaseous carbon dioxide is mixed with oxygen and passed through a heated silica combustion tube. The oxidized boron compounds are collected on the cooler part of the silica tube and in a small absorber vessel containing hydrogen peroxide solution. The contents of the absorber and tube washings are combined and evaporated to dryness in the presence of sodium hydroxide. Curcumin and a mixture of sulphuric acid and acetic acid are added and the boron curcumin complex is dissolved in ethyl alcohol. The boron content of the solution is determined absorptiometrically.
