The simplest format of a quickly assembled index might be an alpha¬betical listing of keywords. This is easy to do with computers, but when dealing with a variety of subjects as is the case in any list of reports, the pertinency of such single words could, for the most part, be determined only by referring to the statement from which the keyword had been selected. This unsatisfactory procedure can be eliminated almost entirely by listing the selected keywords together with the entire title which acts as the modifier pointing up the more specific sense in which a keyword is used.nThe computer programs extract these keywords from their text and arrange them ahead of the title and reference number, before placing the array of keywords in alphabetical order. Thus, the Keyword-Plus-Title index is generated.
