Mass Spectrometer Analysis of the Plasma in the Divertor of the C-Stellarator

A mass spectrometer has been inserted within the C-stellarator divertor for the purpose of analyzing the composition of those particles which are peeled off the main body of the plasma and enter the divertor chamber. It is found that the energy of the D sup + ions parallel to the field line exceed 150 eV which is an order of magnitude larger than their initial thermal energy. It is possible the effects of pressure gradient and other plasma mechanisms could account for this. 4 refs., 5 figs.
