摘要

The radiation induced reaction of carbon dioxide with graphite has been studied in the presence of added hydrogen and water at temperatures between 100°C and 600°C.nAt 600 C hydrogen reacts rapidly and an equimolar amount of carbon mono-xide is formed, the only other product of the reaction being water. The reaction is temperature dependent having an apparent "activation energy" of 21 k.cals/g.mole. The subsequent rate of production of carbon monoxide after complete reaction of hydrogen is the same as that from pure carbon dioxide. At 100 C, the reaction rate is slower but still much greater than that due to thermal processes which are negligible at this temperature.nThe effect of added water is also temperature dependent. Above 350°C there is little effect of the addition of water on the production of carbon monoxide, but at 100°C a much lower rate of carbon monoxide production is observed, and, in addition, hydrogen is formed.
