摘要

A wide variety of C-14 labelled carbons (varying from a high surface area carbon black to pyrographite) have been irradiated with carbon dioxide in sealed silica tubes in nuclear reactors. Attempts have been made to eliminate effects of surface condition on the rate of oxidation, and experiments have been conducted at gas pressures of one and 30 atmospheres, and at temperatures of 120°C and 250°C Within a scatter band of about a factor of two there is little difference in the rate of C-14 gasification or carbon monoxide production from any of the carbons, other than a carbon black., which appears to gasify at a consistently higher rate„ This is contrasted to the large differences of gasification rate obtained for the corresponding thermal reaction.
