The shop labor requirements for each rod were 4.27 man-hours direct labor and 1.41 man-hours indirect labor. The direct material cost was $43 per fuel rod. The variable costs included direct materials, some processing costs for nuclear materials, shop labor, maintenance, direct overhead, and consumable supplies but did not include the cost of nuclear materials themselves, use charges, administrative overhead, research, development, or engineering costs.
