Partition coefficients of the extractable nitrosylruthenium nitrato complexes have been determined between aqueous nitric acid solutions and the ethers dibutyl cellosolve and Butex.nThe tetranitrato complex is the most extractable by both these solvents, but, whereas dibutyl cellosolve is a comparatively weak extractant, the extractabi1ity of the tetra- and trinitrato complexes by Butex is similar to that of about 35% tri-n-butyl phosphate.nThe rate constants found for the nitration and aquation reactions between the tetranitrato and trinitrato complexes in the dibutyl cello¬solve and Butex phases are comparable to those found for these reactions in aqueous nitric acid solutions.
