RADIOLYSIS OF MIXTURES OF CARBON DIOXIDE WITH CARBON-I4 LABELLED METHANE

Mixtures of 0.49％ 14CH4 in CO2 have been irradiated at 350℃ in a spent fuel element γ source. The carbon-14 contents of the products were measured by gas chromatography and an associated gas scintillation counter. 14CIm 14CO2, 14C2H6 and other unidentified products containing up to 15％ of the total carbon-14 were produced. About one sixth of the CO produced is derived from methane.
