Real scope for design by the yield-line theory is provided by complex slabs and/or loading conditions. The designer facing them may well ask himself how much, if any, if his calculation based on the usual, often dubious approximations is correct. In a good many such cases the yield-line theory can be helpful, though often at the expense of more arithmetic.nA substantial reduction of the arithmetic and, consequently, a wider range of application is obtained by using a set of Tables giving the failure loads as well as the yield-line patterns for the most frequent slab shapes and loadings.
