The photomultiplier (P.M.) of a scintillation spectro¬meter is the most troublesome component of this type of measuring device. Complex gain variations occur in spite of very stable P.M. high voltage1).nEvery stabilising system contributes to the com¬plexity of a spectrometer and always shows some dis¬advantages. It is worth mentioning, however, that some stabilisers have been developed which are able to control the gain of the whole spectrometer.
