The problem facing cotton today can be di¬vided into two categories: Economic and Tech¬nological—and the two are inextricably inter¬twined. Economically, the goal is to raise, harvest, process, and finish cotton at a price that will compete not only with foreign cotton growths but with synthetics at home and abroad.nThe textile industry in general and the cot¬ton industry in particular are on the verge of a great new era. Mills with carefully controlled conditions of temperature and humidity will be the rule. Working conditions will be greatly im¬proved through filtering of dust and reduction of noise. Machinery speeds and efficiency will be increased and mechanical-handling equipment will speed the progress of the material through the mill.
