摘要

The equilibrium oxygen pressure over mild and stainless steels have been measured using a galvanic cell technique. The oxygen pressure measured is considerably lower than that resulting from an iron oxide layer on pure iron. In the case of mild steel this is due to the carbon reducing the oxide layer, and in the case of stainless steels to chromium concentrating in the oxide layer.
