The objectives discussed in this semiannual report are part of a long-range study of the application of zonal centrifugation in virology and vaccine production. (Some of the objectives outlined below have been reported in part in previous semiannual reports.)n1. To develop a reliable continuous flow centrifugation technique of isolating infectious respiratory syncytial virus (RS)which would be useful as a production method.n2. To isolate the small particulates (subunits) remaining in the virus-free harvest fluid from the B-IX zonal rotor and examine them by sedimentation analysis in the analytical ultracentrifuge and by electron microscopy.n3. To determine the morphology of the intact virus and of the disintegration products of purified RS virus.
