This report covers an initial feasibility study of the use of low dose ir¬radiation for the inhibition of bacterial growth in liquid media. The pro¬posed technique is based on applying these low doses periodically, on a scheduled basis, so as to prevent the bacteria population from increasing, thus achieving a steady-state bacteria level over a long period of time. Although there are many applications for the use of low dose irradiation to inhibit bacterial growth in liquid media, the problem of bacteria I.n jet ^fuel wing tanks, which ultimately causes corrosion of the wing structure, is considered for development of a conceptual irradiation unit design.
