A wire scanner was manufactured to measure the activities of wires which were irradiated in a reactor core. The detection head of this scanner is a 4 n gas flow counter and is moved intermittently by a partly cogless gear and a servomotor along the wire stretched through the head.nThe counting time of a wire is controlled by counting the preset number of count of the same decaying material activated simultaneously with the wire of interest. As the counting continues, the counting interval becomes progressively longer, thus the radioactive decay of the wire being automatically corrected.
