SYSTEM C. I. D. (Computerised Interpretation of Data) AN ILLUSTRATION OF THE USE OF A DIGITAL COMPUTER IN THE STORAGE, INTERPRETATION AND RECOVERY OF MATERIALS DATA

System C.I.D. (Computerised Interpretation of Data) has been used to store, interpret and extrapolate the creep properties of certain magnesium-manganese alloys.nAn economical, partial factorial experiment involving creep tests at four participating laboratories was used to obtain the creep data. The data were then used to define the thirty-eight constants in a physically reasonable creep equation, by multiple regression analysis in an I BM 7090 computer. The computer was programmed to use the resultant creep equation to answer (by extrapolation if necessary) designers' questions about the likely performance of the alloys in specific applications.
