DETERMINATION OF THE SPECIFIC ACTIVITY OF 14C LABELLED CARBON:A CRITIQUE

Existing procedures for the determination of specific activity are reviewed in the light of current ideas on mechanisms of graphite attack. Some experimental evidence is now becoming avail¬able to show that theoretical defects in the pro¬cedures can in fact lead to incorrect answers. The importance of thorough checks on the homogeneity of labelling of samples is emphasised, and the immedi¬ate programme of experimental work at R.M.L., Culcheth is outlined.
