As some serious explosions have occurred in the FRG- in industries using liquid oxygen, the special safety measures which have been taken in that country may be of interest to French industrialists who are in the same position.nFrom numerous examples quoted it follows thatna. the floors where the transfer of liquid is carried out must be made of non-flammable material, such as concrete;nb. the pumps used for transfer of liquid must be free from all trace of moulding sand and oil which may remain on the surface at the time of their manufacture;this is to avoid seizing and thus heating and ignition;nc. in installations for fractional distillation of liquid air all parts made of wood or of inorganic fibres, bound with synthetic resin, should be replaced by parts made of non-flammable material.
