The results of the Solway Firth survey, published in a series of twelve reports, are discussed. It has been shown that the Solway Firth may be considered a Type D - fully mixed estuary. Silt, important in relation to insoluble radioactive nuclides and nutrients, has been shown to be transported and deposited primarily by tidal mechanisms.
