摘要

The observed forward-backward preference has led to the development of the peripheral model for strong interactions. This model has turned out to describe rather successfully the main features of many inelastic reactions with relatively small numbers of secondaries, and in particular of quasi-two-body processes of type (l) in the energy range between ~ 1 GeV and ~ 10 GeV. Descriptively speaking, this model is based on the following idea:in most of the cases the two incident particles a and b do not collide in a head-on collision but rather in a peripheral collision in which the particles only "glance at each other" (glancing collision);the two particles interact with each other preferentially by their peripheries.
