NAA 77-2 and NAA-77-3 were the second and third irradiation experiments designed to determine the radiation stability of SCB- 1 hydrogen barrier material. Each capsule contained a single SCB-1 coated SNAP 8 fuel cladding assembly, designed to determine both neutron and fission fragment bombardment irradiation effects. The capsules were irradiated in the Engineering Test Reactor from March 1964 to February 1965, during which lime the capsules received a calculated fast neutron dosage of 1.5 × 1021 nvt (E n > 1 Mev), a thermal dosage of 2.5 × 1021 nvt, and a fission fragment bombardment of 1.3× 1018 fission fragments/element inch. The in-pile hydrogen permeation measurements revealed that the ionizing radiation field in the reactor did not significantly alter the hy¬drogen permeation process in SNAP 8 fuel cladding assemblies.
