Finite difference techniques were applied to the study of two-dimen¬sional time-dependent rotational Couette flow, developing into Taylor vortices. A set of finite difference equations utilizing the stream-function to satisfy continuity was developed and their accuracy and sta¬bility were considered. The system of difference equations was judged quite adequate for the proposed hydrodynamic study.nA series of problems with varying Reynolds numbers was considered for a configuration with a radius ratio of outer to inner cylinder of 1.2, with the outer cylinder stationary. In a second series of problems comparison was made with analytic results of Davey and experimental results of Donnelly and Simon.
