CLOSED MAGNETIC CONFIGURATIONS FOR THE CONTAINMENT OF PLASMA

This report is concerned with the theoretical investigation of magnetic field configurations suitable for containing plasma, and in particular with toroidal configurations in which the magnetic field lines form a set of nested magnetic surfaces. The basic parameters of toroidal configurations determining both the stability of the magnetic surfaces and that of the plasma located in a toroidal trap, are outlined.
