摘要

The report deals with a study of the basic parameters of an MHD Generator related to limits imposed by reactor design. The reactor coolant temperature is considered to be limited to within the range 1600°K to 2000°K. Increased gas pressure normally implies reduced reactor plant size. In an MHD plant however increased gas pressure will result in reduced specific power for which a lower limit of 5 to 10 MW/m³ is assumed.nThe theory used assumes extra thermal ionization due to enhanced electron temperature. Computed values of Power Density and Electrical Conductivity of the MHD plasma were under-taken for varying magnetic field strength from 1 to 8 Wb/m². The noble gases Helium and Argon with Potassium and Caesium seeding were considered, for a temperature range of 1010°K to 2000°K and varying 'total head' gas pressure.
