A forced-circulation loop for the maintenance of a supply of systems-quality sodium was designed and fabricated. The loop was loaded with 150 gallons of reactor-grade sodium. After a few weeks of operation at 500 °F with a cold trap at 260ºF (oxygen control) and a hot trap at 1200°F (carbon control), the oxygen content was 10 ± 5 ppm and carbon content < 15 ppm, the levels specified for systems-quality sodium. A summary description of the loop construction, with emphasis on the control instrumentation, is given. In addition, sampling procedures which were developed for this system are described and discussed.
