The reaction of 2,4-tolylene diisocyanate dimer (TDID) with n-hexanol at 130°C was studied to establish the reaction course of TDID as a cross-linking agent for hydroxylated rubbers. A study of the reaction products by infrared spectrophotometry and thin layer chromatography showed that TDID did not cleave during a 1 hr reaction. Thus, the TDID molecule reacts in a difunctional manner under these condi¬tions .
