The dynamic adsorption of krypton and of mixed krypton and xenon from helium mixtures has been investigated on a small charcoal bed by measuring the shapes and positions of breakthrough curves. The experimental techniques and interpretation of results were similar to those in BNL 689, Adsorption of Xenon on Activated Charcoal.1 This previous report should be consulted for details. The adsorbent used in this study was Columbia grade HCC 12/28-mesh. The experimental variables were flow rate, concentration, and bed temperature. Flow rates in die range 1500 to 5000 cc/min were used in an activated charcoal bed 10.5 in. long by 1.38 in. in diameter. The inlet concentration varied from 0.025 to 0.1% krypton and the bed temperature from 25° to 100°C. It was concluded that the ad¬sorption of krypton is similar to that of xenon, and that in the adsorption of the mixtures each gas be¬haves as it did when alone.
