In sodium-cooled fast reactors the argon cover gas may require purification from radioactive krypton and xenon. Coconut-based charcoals have been found to be superior to other types for the adsorption of krypton and xenon from argon. Adsorption coefficients for xenon and krypton have been measured over a wide range of concentrations in argon and the effect of co-adsorption of krypton on the adsorption coefficients for xenon has been examined. The effect is not serious at temperatures down to -70°C if the krypton concentra¬tion in the gas phase is below 1000 v.p.m.
