This report reviews the current state of progress made internationally in the development of nuclear power for marine propulsion units, stressing the economic factors influencing this development and outlining the technical factors involved.nA typical pressurised water reactor incorporating a burnable-poison core and integral heat exchanger suitable for marine use is described and the main parameters for a 71 MW(H) reactor are listed. The main features and philosophy of the design, and development potential are then discussed.
