A RADIOMETRIC METHOD OF CONTINUOUSLY MEASURING THE 14C CONCENTRATION IN CO/CO2 MIXTURES

A 14C tracer was used as an aid in studying the combined effects of irradiation and high temperature on graphite in a CO-CO2 atmosphere. A method was required for continu¬ously measuring this nuclide in the presence of other beta emitters. The problem is discussed and a successful technique is described. Details are given of energy discriminat¬ing and total-counting gas flow-cell scintillators and the associated electronic assemblies developed in the course of the work.
