THE SEPARATION OF SMALL QUANTITIES OF MERCURY FROM GROSS AMOUNTS OF SILVER IN NITRIC ACID SOLUTION

摘要

The methods investigated for the separation and recovery of mg. quantities of stable mercury isotopes from gross amounts of silver in strong nitric acid solution are described. The method adopted was displacement from solution by copper, and recovery of the mercury from the Hg/Ag/Cu alloy by controlled heating in vacuum. Experiments with natural mercury have shown recoveries in the range 96％-99％.
