The analysis in this paper applies to phase-lock systems of all kinds. The method used is to reduce the actual multiple loop servo system to an equivalent circuit diagram containing an LC resonance circuit representing the beam, a system of damping impedances and a number of driving sources. This circuit yields the self-resonance frequencies and damping factors of the system as well as its response to typical drive situations. Examples of this are the radial control properties with respect to slow errors in phase setting and frequency programming or the response to the step function phase errors that may occur at injection and during beam manipulations.nIf the frequency response properties of the actual electronic circuitry are, or can be assumed to be, of simple nature the resulting equivalent circuits turn out to be so simple that all relevant results can be found with very little calculation.
