Details of eight commercially available grades of EPDM based on terpolymers of ethylene, propylene and 1,4-hexa-diene are briefly reviewed, with emphasis on three newer types possessing attributes of fast cure, high green strength with exceptional filler and oil acceptance and low viscosity Suitably compounded faster curing EPDM containing higher levels of third monomer is essentially equivalent to slower curing grades in heat and ozone resistance Faster curing EPDM permits a wider choice of accelerator selection to suit the vulcanisation processnBlends of EPDM with minor amounts of chlorosulphonated polyethylene and polychloroprene show improved heat resistance and response to bonding agents respectively than unmodified EPDM Addition of EPDM to sulphur cured butyl rubber improves heat resistance and low temperature flexibility.
