A Method of Descent for Finding the Roots of Polynomials in a Single Variable

This report describes a method for finding the roots of a polynomial and a subroutine for the CDC 660O embodying the method. The algorithm is based upon determining a direction of descent from a given point by examining the first nonzero derivative at that point;rather involved calculations then provide a distance to move in this direction„ If the first derivative is nonzero then this method is a modified version of Newton's method.
