The Slow External Beam at the Brookhaven AGS

The work described in this lecture represents effort on the part of nearly all the people in the Accelerator Department, and my role is simply that of a reporter. The size of this project is considerably understated by the dollar and manpower costs as usually quoted for large projects because much of the beam design and development was moon¬lighted" in addition to other operational responsi¬bilities by many staff people. The true bookkeeping figures would show the Slow Beam development to be one of the largest projects undertaken by the Department since completion of initial construc¬tion of the Alternating Gradient Synchrotron. It is also one of the most important for our future program.
