Modern Alchemy With Accelerators

I have outlined some recoil experiments we have performed and have tried to show how the analysis of such experiments can help tie together a variety of experimental results and theoretical calcula¬tions. We have, I think, made some progress in un¬derstanding the reactions of high energy protons with complex nuclei. Fission at these energies does not seem to be a fundamentally different process from that at much lower energies, and the ener¬getics of the spallation process appears to behave in a reasonable way.
