A parametric study of recovery efficiencies for different Q values is presented for a D-T system and for a neutron-free system. The properties of these fusion power systems are discussed with reference to their steady-state operation and to their tran¬sient operation up to full-power level. The partitioning of energy among the plasma constituents (electrons, reacting ions, and reaction products) is calculated based on the paper of Kuo-Petravic, Petravic, and Watson. The energy distributions of the charged components leaving the plasma, especially the electrons, will bear on the design of the direct convertor. Some discussion is given on the relative merits of a D-T system vs a D-He system as a means of relaxing the requirements on the recovery efficiencies and the circulating power.
