The PHOXE code reads the photon production data files in ENDF/B format, checking them for format syntax, consistency, and "physics" errors. Suspected errors are flagged on an output listing immediate¬ly after the record in which they are detected. Some preprocessing of the data is performed, both for error checking and for listing convenient quantities (e.g., average photon energy of a continuum) useful to a reviewer. The intent of this code is to provide an aid to cross-section evaluators and reviewers in their attempts to pro¬duce an ENDF/B data set free of typographical, syntax, and simple "physics" errors. An attempt was made to include any reasonable check capable of being automated and which does not require an inter¬active capability with any system external to ENDF/B (e.g., a reviewer or data bank). The code is presently operational on CDC 6600 and IBM 360 computers and is available from the Radiation Shielding Informa¬tion Center as PSR-21.
