A complete seismic history of the south¬east region of the United States has been compiled for possible use in the evaluation of the seismic hazard at proposed nuclear installation sites. Examination of the seismicity of the area, based on this history, indicates that the highest seis¬mic risk exists in two small areas around New Madrid, Missouri, and Charleston, South Carolina, but that the general level of seismicity in the southeast region is about two orders of magnitude less than in California. Various types of special seismic histories for smaller areas of the south¬east region are available for evaluations of par¬ticular sites.
