Various physical and chemical test methods and analyses were investigated and evaluated for their suitability in distinguishing differences in different types and batches of commercial, partially polymerized furfuryI alcohol resins. The methods studied included optical and electron microscopy, infrared analysis, water and alcohol film spreadability, thermogravimetric-differential thermal analysis, gel per¬meation chromatography, centrifugation, ultraviolet fluorescence, halogenation, X-ray radiography, cryogenic X-ray diffraction, and ultrasonic attenuation.nMost tests failed to show significant differences in various batches;however, molecu¬lar weight, differential thermal analysis, and film spreadability tests showed signifi¬cant differences.
