摘要

The Nuclear Safety Information Center is a highly sophisticated scientific information center operated at ORNL for the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission. Its information file, which consists of both data and bibliographic information, is computer stored and numerous programs have been developed to facilitate the use of this information by its diverse users through the many services which the Center performs. In support of its work the Center maintains part of a small communications network which now includes 13 remote terminals (6 in NSIC offices) through which most information is added to the computer and much is routinely retrieved. The supporting programming permits extensive manipulation of the computer stored information as well as interactive telecommunications from all of the remote terminals.
